The current legislation on energy saving requires housing and communal services facilities and enterprises to maintain wastewater accounting . Often, the amount of wastewater is equated to water consumption. But, this method does not always work, since it does not take into account the individual characteristics of the consumer. Therefore, large objects require a wastewater meter .

Flowmeters: types and principle of operation

Today, modern technologies are used in the production of metering devices, which makes it possible to perform measurements with high accuracy. The effluents, as a rule, contain suspended particles and chemically active substances, therefore, the design of all flow meters is designed to work in such environments.

Types of counters:

  • Meters to determine the flow rate.
  • Devices for measuring level and flow rate.

Structurally, effluent metering devices are divided into ultrasonic, lever-pendulum and electromagnetic.

Feasibility of installing wastewater meters

In a number of cases, the organization of wastewater metering is impossible (for example, if the object is located in a densely built-up area). As confirmation of this fact, a special opinion is issued.

It must be borne in mind that metering devices should be installed on straight sections. As a rule, it is impossible to use the existing inspection chambers for their installation, since they are located at the places where the pipeline turns.

After deciding on the feasibility of installing a flow meter, the optimal type of device is determined. This takes into account all the characteristics and features of the object.

Common measurement problems

Problems such as siltation and backwater can affect measurement accuracy.

Siltation occurs when the slope of the pipeline is insufficient, as well as when soil or sand gets into it. The reasons for the appearance of backwaters include the destruction of pipeline sections, the accumulation of solid particles in them, the wrong slope or level of the tie-in.

Normal system operation is required to obtain accurate measurements.

Wastewater metering methods

Various metering methods are used for pressure and non-pressure networks. In pressure networks, water flow meters can be used, which work on the principle of a water meter. The selection of the device is carried out taking into account the estimated volume of wastewater.

It is much more difficult to obtain accurate results in free-flow systems than in pressure networks.
