What is sinter in metallurgy

Что такое агломерат в металлургии

Agglomerate is a lumpy ore concentrate (a product of metal ore mines), which is obtained in the process of close approximation of fine ore, sintered into pieces , ores. Often this ore can be in the form of dust, and its usual dimensions are in the range from 5 to 100 mm.

Sinter is produced by roasting ores of lead, zinc, etc. In ferrous metallurgy, sinter is the basic raw material for iron smelting.

Sinter production

In the production of sinter, the main components of the feedstock are such concentrates as iron ore, mining product waste, scale, fluxes that protect the molten metal, as well as solid fuel. All components are mixed in a certain proportion, corresponding to the standards for the production of sinter under the conditions of technological parameters.

The concentrate is baked using sinter machines. In the process, the light alloy component of the entire volume is melted, holding solid particles. For this to happen, it must be mixed with coke in the form of a powder or fluxes (for example, limestone, dolomite), and then knocked into lumps. Next, the mixture of raw materials (charge) is loaded into the equipment.

Sintering is characterized as a layered process. If we take into account the height, the thickness of the charge that is sintered is divided into zones.

  1. Water-wetting of the charge.
  2. Drying and active heating of the charge.
  3. Getting maximum temperatures during combustion.
  4. The passage of crystallization and the exit of the finished agglomerate.

Variations

  • Iron ore agglomerate is a product with the addition of dolomite to the charge.
  • Sinter containing manganese ore. It is used for the production of an alloy of manganese and iron.
  • Reduced iron oxide product, metallised sinter
  • Product with iron ore oxides. It is characterized by high strength properties.
  • Iron ore agglomerate, not galvanized, produced without the presence of limestone in the raw material.
  • Low flux agglomerate. It is obtained from a mixture with less limestone.
  • Iron ore concentrate with a large amount of limestone in the charge is called high-flux and is designed to improve metallurgical performance
  • characteristics.
  • The sinter that is used to melt high-carbon ferromanganese using the flux method is called fluxed manganese
  • agglomerate.
  • A sintered agglomerate machined after sintering is a calibrated agglomerate. This is a high-quality product that significantly increases the efficiency of a blast furnace.
  • The agglomerate obtained by agglomeration of phosphorites is a phosphorite agglomerate.
  • The derivative and concentrates of chromium ore give a chromite variety of agglomerate.
