On August 9, the authorities of Tangshan, a major steelmaking center in China's Hebei Province, issued a notice to 35 independent local steel companies detailing production control requirements for the period from August 16 to September 3 due to the approaching military parade in September to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese aggression. and the world anti-fascist war. In particular, from August 16 to August 25, independent steel mills in Tangshan will be required to stop production at any time, depending on weather conditions. From August 25 to September 3, the plants in question will have to suspend production without fail.
These measures are stricter than those announced in Tangshan on July 4-15, when Tangshan sought to limit the production of sintering machines to at least 30 percent of full capacity.
As a result of the measures, daily steel production in the region is expected to decrease by 90,000 tons from August 16 to early September, while molten iron production decreased by 31,000 tons per day in July during the restrictions.
Average prices for billets and rebars in the local Chinese market increased by 25 yuan/mt and 20 yuan/mt, respectively, from last Friday, to 3,125 yuan/mt out of stock and 3,347 yuan/mt out of stock, according to SteelOrbis data.
