The annual volume of metal production in Brazil was 7.5% lower than predicted in early 2012, reports Reuters. The country's metallurgy was faced with an increase in coal prices and the largest overpassification of steel domestic market over the past three years.
The production of steel in December 2012 amounted to 2 million 600 thousand tons, which is 2.6% less than in December 2011. The level of production at the end of 2012 was the lowest since 2010, when Brazilia melted 2 million 400 thousand tons of raw steel.
The total volume of sales of metal rolling in the Brazilian domestic market in 2012 amounted to 21 million 600 thousand tons, increasing by 0.7% with respect to 2011. The export of metal distribution to Brazil in 2012 reached 9 million 700 thousand tons.
