Arcelormittal finally closes a number of metallurgical capacities in Belgium

Arcelormittal liezh told the local authorities about his intention to finally close a number of his metallurgical capacities in connection with the further weakening of the European economy and, as a result, low demand for their products.

As early as October 14, 2011, the Belgian branch of ArcelorMittal transferred all domain production to LIIZh. It was decided to focus on processing industries in five main rolling camps of the metrmock plant.

However, despite the closure of the domain production of Arcelormittal liege (the liezhsky branch of the company), more than 200 million euros in the first 9 months of 2012 reported on EBIT, with a forecast for worsening the economic situation in 2013.

In an effort to adapt to worsening market conditions, ArcelorMittal liege managers decided to close the next six production sites:
1. Hot rolling in sherhal (chertal);
2. One of the two camps of cold rolling in Tilleu (Tilleu);
3. Two lines of zinc in Flémalle (Flémalle);
4. The line of production of galvanizing and the line of production of roll steel coated in Ramet (Ramet).

In addition, it is supposed to close the Koksochemical Plant in LIIZh, due to the excess of coke offers in the European market.

Arcelormittal admit that the dismissal of more than 1300 people will be difficult for the local community, but the company seek to find socially acceptable solutions for everyone who will suffer when the industries are closed.

"We are deeply regretted that the economic situation was even more deteriorated to such an extent that the closure of production in liege became necessary. We admit that this is a very difficult announcement for employees in liege. We hoped that we will be able to adapt to a decrease in demand, but, given the ongoing lack of orders and the general weakness of the European economy, it will become more and more obvious that all further actions will be useless. Stop the further losses of the metallurgical plant and return it to a steady development path.
