Czech steel industry is located at a crossroads, and leaders warn of an existential threat of sector survival. The Council on the Economic and Social Agreement of the Moravian-Silesian Region (Trilateral) recently held his plenary meeting in his regional office to consider the deepening crisis in the Czech metallurgical production. At the meeting, representatives of the manufacturers of steel, trade unions and regional authorities joined forces to call the Government and EU institutions to urgently protect domestic production from growing energy prices, burdensome climatic purposes of the EU and a surge of cheap imports. The parties
trade unions, led by the COVO OS, issued an open letter to the political parties and the future government of the Czech Republic. The letter expresses a fundamental disagreement with the current national and industrial strategies of the EU, claiming that they undermine the competitiveness and survival of European steel. Roman Tsurcho, Chairman of the Kovo trade union, emphasized that without state support, Czech metallurgical companies cannot independently deal with the transition to low -emission technologies.
