Steel smelting in 2012 amounted to 12 million 4589 thousand tons, compared to 14 million 375 thousand tons in 2011, the production of metal production decreased to 11 million 767 thousand tons compared with 13,569 thousand tons in 2011.
The release of cast iron at metinvest metzavods decreased by 11% and amounted to 11 million 10 thousand tons in 2012, against 12 million 385 thousand tons in 2011.
The production of a common iron ore concentrate in the Metinvest group in the Mining Division in 2012 increased by 1% compared to 2011 and amounted to 36 million 224 thousand tons.
In the structure of the production of metal products in 2012, some changes occurred: the production of commodity semi -finished products decreased by 24% compared to 2011, and the production of marketable metal products decreased by 8%.
The reduction in the production of commodity slabs was the result of the low efficiency of product sales due to the unfavorable situation in key regions of the consumption of slabs (Asia, Europe).
A decrease in the production of finished products by 8% in 2012 compared to the previous year was due to three main reasons:
- A decrease in the production of flat rental by 598 thousand tons due to exacerbation of competition in key sales markets, especially in Europe, against the background of a reduction in demand and price in the leaf market;
- A decrease in the production of large diameter pipes by 247 thousand tons due to the completion of the Bainu-Shmkent project (Kazakhstan) and the transfer of the next stage of the East-West project (Turkmenistan);
- A decrease in the production of long rental by 170 thousand tons as a result of a reduction in the demand for long rental from European consumers, which negatively affected the loading of the Promet Steel plant (Bulgaria). In addition, due to the unprofitability of the production of light profiles on the EMZ in the context of demand reduction in 2012, a decision was made on the conservation of the camp 360. At the same time, in the segment of large profiles, the volume of shipments increased due to the more active consumption of these products in Ukraine and the CIS countries.
At the same time, at Metinvest enterprises in the fourth quarter of 2012, compared with the previous quarter, the production of steel increased by 2% to 2 million 881 thousand tons.
The extraction of coal in the mining division of the group increased in October-December 2012 by 4% to 2 million 808 thousand tons, and the production of total iron ore concentrate increased by 1% to 9 million 59 thousand tons.
