The Russian steel company Severstal has announced the completion of the autumn overhaul program for the electric steel production chain at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Combine (CherMK).
The large-scale repairs included complex work on electric arc furnace No. 1, ladle furnace No. 2 and a continuous casting machine for blanks that form the core of the company's electric steelmaking route.
According to Severstal, the overhaul affected several key components, such as the replacement of the furnace chimney, the modernization of the slag corridor, as well as the repair and recalibration of power and electrical systems. In total, the company invested 160.3 million rubles ($1.8 million) in the program.
"The overhaul of the electric steelmaking complex is aimed at improving the technical readiness of the units, improving working conditions and ensuring compliance with environmental standards," said Evgeny Vinogradov, General Director of the Russian Steel and Raw Materials Assets Division of Severstal.
