Primetals Technologies said that the new casting machine is designed to produce ultrathin slabs up to 2,700 millimeters wide and 460 millimeters thick. The manufacturer indicated that this configuration ensures excellent quality of the inner plate and supports reliable production of high-quality, defect-free ultrathin plates. With an annual production capacity of up to 3.5 million metric tons, Custer No. 5 will produce grades of steel for offshore applications, wind power projects, shipbuilding and other heavy segments.
The manufacturer emphasized that the advanced engineering design ensures improved process performance while maintaining the product quality standards required in complex applications such as offshore structures and renewable energy equipment.
