Having completely stopped export of its own scrap metal, Ukraine began to replenish its lack of imports from Turkey and Kazakhstan. In January 2013, the country's metallurgical enterprises purchased four times more steel scrap than a year earlier.
In total, last month, 4 thousand tons of scrap metal for a total of 1 million 815 thousand dollars were imported, while the average purchase price was about $ 424 per ton. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in January 2011, Ukraine exported 62 thousand 248 tons of scrap totaling 26 million 230 thousand dollars, while the average sale price also amounted to approximately $ 422 per ton.
The main consumer of Ukrainian scrap metal in 2012 was Türkiye, according to the Ukrainian customs, about 94% of the exports of metallurgical raw materials sailed into this country.
As we have already reported, in just 2012, 366 thousand tons of scrap metal were exported, which is more than half less than in 2011. Since November 2012, Ukraine completely stopped selling scrap metal outside the country.
