In 2012, Türkiye imported about 22 million 400 thousand tons of scrap metal totaling 9 billion 400 thousand dollars, which is 4.4% more than in 2011. This became known from the report of the Institute of Statistics of Turkey.
The main importer of metallurgical raw materials in Turkey became the United States with 6 million 300 tons of scrap with a total of 2 billion 700 thousand dollars, increasing supply by 8.2% compared to 2011 and the European Union with 11 million 500 thousand tons (+16%). Lom’s import from the CIS countries in 2012 decreased by 16.7% to 3 million tons.
The average price of imported scrap metal for Turkish metallurgical enterprises amounted to $ 420 per ton in 2012 by decreasing $ 455 in 2011.
The sharply increased monthly purchases of scrap metal by Turkey in the first half of 2012 to a record 1 million 900 thousand tons began to decline in the second half.
