Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich launched a new dust reduction system

As part of the implementation of the Mariupol Processing and Environmental Program of the Mariupol, which was developed and approved by the Mariupol City Council, the Ilyich MMK, which is part of the group, put into operation the system of dusting with nitrogen emissions of the casting courtyards of domain furnaces. This was reported by the corporate publication of the plant - the newspaper Ilyichevets.

The new installation, the construction and commissioning of which cost the owners of Metinvest almost 3 million hryvnias, will reduce the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere of the city of Mariupol by one and a half thousand tons per year.

“The introduction of a system of dust reduction by the nitrogen emissions of the foundry yards of domain furnaces is the next step of the plant towards improving the environmental situation in Mariupol. Our main task today is to modernize metallurgical production in strict accordance with the norms of the environmental legislation of Ukraine. In this regard, we will continue to actively invest in specific environmental measures, ”as the General Director of PJSC MMK named after Ilyich »Yuri Zinchenko.

Provide the new equipment with nitrogen, 60 of the oxygen workshop of the Ilyich MMK.

The technology of suppression of dust with nitrogen consists in the prevention of oxidative processes leading to the formation of brown smoke, by supplying gaseous nitrogen in the zone of smoke formation. The release of cast iron from the domain furnace is accompanied by the release of a significant amount of dust into the atmosphere (0.4 –0.7 kg per ton of cast iron), consisting of two main components: by 70% of finely dispersed brown smoke and 30% of coarse -dispersed graphite dust.

The implemented project at the Ilyich Mariupolskinsky Commer for the Mariupolsky Complementary Road, provides for the purge of the Foundry Yard flanks during melting and further aspiration of gases in dust dust.

At most factories in Ukraine, these emissions are not captured in any way and are thrown into the atmosphere in the form of unorganized emissions.
