Eurofer is disappointed with the EU program to reduce CO2 emissions

“An artificial increase in the price of CO2 by providing or eliminating benefits will undermine the competitiveness of the European industry by raising even higher prices for electricity. The increase in the cost of emissions will be transferred to the price of energy carriers and, ultimately, to consumers of energy resources, which will make a very expensive set goal - to reduce the number of emissions by 2020, ”said Gordon Moffat, CEO of the European Association of Manufacturers.

If the European parliament makes a final decision on making changes to the EU emissions system, this will inevitably lead to an additional increase in expenses, especially in such energy -intensive industries as the steel industry.

“The price of natural gas in the EU is three times higher today than in the USA, while the cost of electricity is twice as much. Deinuustrationalization is already a reality for the European Union and the prevailing prices for energy resources are the main reason for investing in other countries of the world, ”said Mr. Moffat.

EUROFER supports political statements in the field of combating climate changes, but only if they go hand in hand with social and economic priorities. The European Association of manufacturers of steel calls for parliamentarians to preserve the existing system of trading emissions of CO2 in the form as it was conceived, the Eurofer statement said.

Meanwhile, members of the Envi parliamentary committee are determined.

“We cannot wait for the completion of the economic crisis, hoping that it will end before we can solve the problem of the resource, environmental and climatic crisis,” says European Commissioner Konni Hedehaard.

“The new program of action opens up our way to Europe, in which people will live in a safe and healthy environment, where economic growth will be based on green technologies and where environmental stability will be invariably high,” the European Commissioner Yanez Totonchik emphasizes.
