Visible consumption of steel in Latin America and the Caribbean reached 64 million 600 thousand tons last year, which is 3% more than in 2011. Consumption growth was provided by countries such as Chile ( +22%) and Peru ( +18%).
The production of metal rolling in the region increased by 2% compared to 2011 and reached 56 million 400 thousand tons. However, in December 2012, a decrease in the production of finished rental was recorded by 4% - up to 4 million 700 thousand tons in relation to the same period in 2011.
In the total number of metal products produced in 2012, Brazilian metallurgists accounted for 47% or 26 million 20 thousand tons, Mexican metallurgists produced 28% of metal rolling or 15 million 900 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, in January 2013, the volumes of steel production and metal rolling in Latin America began to grow, increasing on average by 1-2% compared to January 2012.
Brazil and Mexico remain the main manufacturers of metal products in the region with a production of 34 million 700 tons and 18 million 100 thousand tons in 2012, respectively.
