According to the UK Trade Protection Authority (TRA), the scope of the ongoing UK anti-dumping investigation into imports of rolled steel from South Korea may be narrowed.
According to the British authorities, a proposal has been received to exclude wide thick-rolled products with a width of 2500 mm or more and a thickness of 6 mm or higher from products considered as part of the anti-dumping investigation.
During the comment period, TRA accepted the opinions of companies supplying a wide, thick sheet to end users in the UK. According to the materials, exporting companies, including Samsung C&T, and importers from the UK, such as Duferco and Stemco, opposed the introduction of anti-dumping duties. These stakeholders argued that British steel producers did not have the technical capability to produce a thick sheet with a width of more than 2,100 mm. As a result, they argued that importing broader rolled products would not harm domestic production, even if volumes increased.
TRA stated that as a result of the proposed revision of the scope of application, the product codes will not be changed.
The anti-dumping investigation was launched in June 2025, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
