According to German manufacturer SMS Group, Indian steel company Tata Steel Ltd has successfully rolled the first coils at its Compact strip manufacturing plant (CSP) in Jamshedpur after completing an extensive modernization project conducted by SMS Group.
The CSP plant was originally supplied and commissioned by SMS Group in 2011 and currently has an annual production capacity of about 2.5 million tons. The mill produces a hot-rolled strip with a width from 900 mm to 1680 mm, and a thickness from 16 mm to 1.0 mm.
According to SMS Group, the upgrade included the integration of the new F7 finishing mill, as well as comprehensive improvements to automation systems. In addition to installing the new F7 rack, the breeder adapted the existing roll changing equipment to support the expanded configuration of the finishing mill.
SMS Group stated that the addition of the F7 finishing rack makes it possible to optimize the distribution of rolling load, especially for harder materials manufactured with wider band widths and thinner calibers. The manufacturer noted that the new stand reduces bottlenecks for certain brands of products in the finishing mill, which in turn increases the yield for these brands.
