The agreement was signed between Tata Steel and representatives of the Government of Jharkhand at the annual conference of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
The proposed investments include the introduction of advanced cast iron production technologies such as HISARNA and EASyMelt.
HISARNA technology enables the use of domestic coal and low-grade iron ore while significantly reducing carbon emissions in combination with carbon capture systems. Following successful pilot tests in the Netherlands, Tata Steel plans to establish an industrial facility with a capacity of about one million tons per year in Jamshedpur by 2030.
EASyMelt (Electrically Assisted Syngas Melter) technology, a first-of-its-kind global solution, is designed to reduce coke consumption through the use of syngas, potentially reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50 percent.
