The company's iron ore production in the specified period increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to 133.8 million tons. BHP Billiton said it expects its iron ore production to be between 258 and 269 million tonnes in the 2025-26 fiscal year, remaining unchanged.
Between July and December of fiscal year 2025-26, BHP Billiton's metallurgical coal production as a whole increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to 9.16 million tons. The producer maintained its forecast for metallurgical coal production for the 2025-26 fiscal year at the level of 18-20 million tons.
BHP said it had achieved another half of the very high targets by recording operational milestones on its iron ore assets. According to BHP, these figures were achieved safely and supported by a positive price environment, with iron ore prices rising four percent year-on-year.
BHP said that as part of its iron ore operations, Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) achieved record production and shipments in the first half of the year, well ahead of a typically wet third quarter. The company noted that Samarco volumes increased following strong operating performance at the second processing plant following its restart at the end of the first half of fiscal year 2025-26.
