According to local media reports, South Korean galvanized and painted steel manufacturer POSCO Steeleon, a subsidiary of POSCO Group, announced that it has completed the installation of rooftop solar power plants at key production sites, including its coating and color coating plants in Pohang.
Currently, the company has started full-scale operation of the systems, integrating solar electricity directly into the operation of its installation.
Renewable energy sources will cover more than six percent of electricity demand
With the new POSCO installations, Steeleon expects that approximately six to 6.5 percent of its annual electricity consumption will be provided by renewable energy sources.
The solar panels are installed on a total roof area of about 20,075 square meters. The electricity generated at the site is consumed directly in the production processes, which supports the company's efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and move towards the goal of decarbonization by 2050.
POSCO is a developed steel used in solar infrastructure
The company applied PosMAC 3.0, a steel product developed by POSCO, to the supporting structures of solar panels and cable trays.
According to the company, the material has high corrosion resistance, extended service life and lower maintenance requirements, ensuring stable operation in coastal conditions while increasing the overall economic efficiency of installations.
