Ukraine deliberately loses the chances of the Association Agreement - the opinion of the Euro -deputies

In the European parliament, socialists and democrats welcomed the results of the Ukraine-Es summit. However, the Ukrainian authorities should still prove the real commitment to the European Union to carry out the reforms necessary for signing an association agreement. This was announced after the Ukrainian Summite in Brussels by deputies of the Green group in the European parliament Werner Schulz and Rebecca Harms, reports The Euraactiv.

“The political leadership of Ukraine, led by President Yanukovych, consciously loses the chances of an association agreement. Instead of strengthening the rule of law, the situation worsens ... A pressure on the remaining independent media is growing anxious pace. Under these conditions, the EU clearly cannot conclude an agreement on association with Ukraine, ”said Rebecca Harms.

In order to prove that it is really according to the provisions of the Association Agreement, the Ukrainian political leadership must first demonstrate the will to implement the necessary reforms. These minimal requirements, such as, for example, the rule of law and freedom of speech, should remain fundamental prerequisites for a closer relationship with the EU.

“The European Union should help Ukraine become less dependent on Russia through energy cooperation and support for the modernization of infrastructure. The EU must also conclude an agreement on the main visa regime in order to ensure greater freedom and exchange between Ukraine and the EU, ”said Werner Schulz in turn.

“Both parties must use the current impetus to ensure that the association agreement and in -depth and comprehensive free trade become documents of historical significance and were signed at the next Summit of Eastern Partnership in Vilnius in November of this year. This is an opportunity that either Ukraine or the EU can afford to miss, ”said the deputy from the Social Democratic group of the European Parliament of the libor of the Roocons.
