Japan's industrial production fell 0.1 percent month-on-month in December last year and rose 6.8 percent from the same month in 2024, according to preliminary indexes from the industrial production report released by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
On the other hand, Japan's iron and steel production index fell 1.5 percent year-on-year in December, while While Japan's seasonally adjusted iron and steel production index increased 1.1 percent in the month compared with November. Meanwhile, shipments of iron and steel by Japanese manufacturers fell 2.3 percent in December, and iron and steel inventories fell 0.1 percent from the previous month.
Japan's industrial output is expected to rise 9.3 percent in January and fall 4.3 percent in February, on a month-on-month basis, according to the ministry's Manufacturing Outlook Survey. Meanwhile, Japan's iron and steel production is expected to contract 2.3 percent in January and rise 1.5 percent in February, month on month.
