Gerdau restarts steel mill in Brazil

Brazilian steel producer Gerdau has restarted its Maracanau plant, located in the northeastern state of Ceara.

In 2024, the plant suspended work on upgrading its steelmaking facilities, with an estimated investment of $40 million aimed at improving environmental standards and operational efficiency.

Production will focus on blanks up to 12 meters long, which will also supply Gerdau products to the Caucaia Plant in Ceara for the production of long-rolled products, primarily for the domestic market.

Before the modernization, the Marakanau plant could only produce blanks up to 6 meters long.
