Brazil's SADA Group announced that it has signed an agreement with ArcelorMittal Brazil, through its subsidiary IGAR, covering the recycling and recycling of scrap metal.
The contract covers scrap recycling, implementation of specialized storage and handling infrastructure. It also aims to strengthen circular economy practices in Brazil's steel value chain.
IGAR facility that will serve as a national benchmark for recycling
Located in Igarapa, Minas Gerais, the IGAR facility is scheduled to open in February. Once operational, it is expected to become the largest automotive recycling center in Brazil and a national benchmark for scrap recycling.
The facility is designed to support large-scale recovery and reuse of steel scrap, improve material efficiency and enhance the integration of recycled materials into domestic steel production.
The use of scrap metal supports the decarbonization strategy ArcelorMittal
Increased use of scrap metal is at the core of ArcelorMittal's sustainability and decarbonization strategy. By expanding its scrap-based steel production, the company aims to reduce waste generation and carbon emissions associated with primary steel production, while improving overall resource efficiency.
The project is in line with Brazil's National Solid Waste Policy (PNR) and the Mover Program, which promote waste reduction, recycling and
