Brazil exported 410,900 tons of slabs in January 2026, compared with 762,400 tons in December 2025, according to Secex.
Such a significant decrease indicates the absence of exports to the United States compared to 343,700 tons in December. The decrease is probably related to the ongoing discussions regarding import tariffs between the authorities of Brazil and the United States.
In January, Ternium exported 147,700 tons of slabs at a price of $561/ton to Uruguay. ArcelorMittal Tubarão supplied 62,000 tons at a price of $453 per ton to Belgium, 48,300 tons at a price of $451 per ton to Poland, 43,800 tons at a price of $457 per ton to Mexico, 32,800 tons at a price of $485 per ton to Spain, 30,600 tons at a price of $447 per ton to France and 3,600 tons at a price of $534/ton to Canada. ArcelorMittal Pecem shipped 25,400 tons at a price of $505 per ton to Mexico and 16,700 tons at a price of $534 per ton to Canada. All conditions are FOB.
In response to the current problems associated with exports to the United States, Brazilian slab exporters have actively sought alternative markets for their products.
Meanwhile, Usiminas imported 29,200 metric tons of slabs from Japan at a price of US$412 per ton, also on FOB terms, marking the first such deal since August 2025.
