The Italian Danieli plant has announced the successful launch of a new cold mill complex supplied to Ugandan steel manufacturer Roofings Rolling Mills Ltd. According to Danieli, the complex has achieved stable operation and ensures consistent quality of flat products.
Background and Project Scope
Danieli said Roofings Rolling Mills has selected the plant manufacturer in 2022 to design and supply an advanced cold mill complex as part of the manufacturer's expansion into the flat products market. According to Danieli, the package being supplied includes a cold reversing mill, a hot-dip galvanizing line, a coating line and a coil trimming line.
Cold Reversing Mill
The single-stand, four-height cold reversing mill has a capacity of approximately 150,000 metric tons per annum and feeds the galvanizing line. The manufacturer stated that the mill is equipped with high-efficiency hydraulic automatic pressure control and a closed coil cooling system, which can consistently roll ultra-thin strip down to 0.15mm. Danieli also noted that its Level 2 automation systems were integrated from the early design stages. Within the first three weeks of commissioning, the mill reached the contract rolling speed of 1100 m/min.
Hot-dip galvanizing line
According to Danieli, the galvanizing line is designed to produce commercial quality and full hard grades at speeds up to 160 m/min. The line processes strips with a thickness of 0.15
