Indian steelmaker Kalyani Ispat Ltd, a subsidiary of Rungta Sons Ltd, has appointed German manufacturer SMS Group to supply high-speed rod and wire rod for its Rajnandgaon plant in Chhattisgarh, India. Commissioning of the facility is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
According to Kalyani Ispat, the new mill will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons. The enterprise will produce reinforcement with a diameter of 8-40 mm and wire rod with a diameter of 5.5-20 mm. The manufacturer indicated that the new facility will enable it to respond to growing demand for construction steel products, particularly in the expanding infrastructure and construction markets in Asia.
Kalani Ispat said the mill will be designed with environmental considerations in mind. The configuration will eliminate heating furnaces and incorporate induction heating technology, reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency.
The plant will also be equipped with SMS Group's advanced drive and automation technologies. In line with SMS Group's technological reach, the software architecture will enable sequential mill control from the inlet area to the core and coil finishing lines.
