According to data released today by Brazil's Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), part of the country's Ministry of Industry, Development and Foreign Trade, wire rod exports from Brazil totaled a paltry 32,400 metric tons (t) in February, down nearly 54 percent from the 69,600 t recorded a month earlier in January.
The decline reflected mainly exports to the United States, which fell 73 percent, according to SECEX. reaching 10,800 tons at an average FOB price of $693 per ton.
Other export destinations were South America (20,800 tons at $565 per ton) and Canada (800 tons at $848 per ton).
Exporters were ArcelorMittal (18,100). tons) and Guerdau (14,300 tons).
Meanwhile, Brazil imported 6,200 tons of wire rod in February, up almost 48 percent from the 4,200 tons recorded a month earlier.
February import sources included Egypt (4,700 tons at US$546 per tonne), China (1,200 tons). at $507/t), as well as Europe (300 t at $970/t), also on FOB terms.
