Acero Argentino (AA), Argentina's steel industry chamber, said the country's crude steel production was 272,200 metric tons (t) in February versus 351,400 tons in January, down nearly 23 percent.
AA said local demand for steel remains weak, with growing import pressure in the tax environment hampering local value-added production, along with unfair competition from China continues to have a significant impact on the Argentine steel industry.
The AA statement said that “Argentina continues to make progress in the process of macroeconomic stabilization, which is a necessary condition for restoring sustainable economic growth.” AA added that Argentina's steel sector continues to operate at activity levels that remain below its historical potential.
On a similar monthly comparative basis, AA said HRC production fell 60.6 percent to 59,800 tons, CRC production fell 52.3 percent to 49,300 tons, while long products production fell 28.9 percent to 88,600. tons.
Compared to February 2025, AA data shows crude steel production fell 14 percent, HRC production rose 27.3 percent, CRC production increased 6.4 percent, while long steel production fell 22.8 percent.
