According to the Anfavea industry association, car production in Brazil reached 271,200 units (passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses) in August compared to 253,900 units in July, reflecting the record high level of production since October, 2019.
Igor Calvet, President of Anfavea, said that the production figures are encouraging, as they indicate an increase in domestic demand, despite a decrease in exports. However, two thirds of the population of about 150,000 additional units produced that year were SKD (semi-disassembled) and CKD (fully disassembled) models, while only a third were fully manufactured in Brazil.
Domestic car sales decreased by 1.6 percent to 275,100 units, while exports increased by 2.2 percent to 39,800 units.
Compared to August 2025, in August 2026, production increased by 9.4 percent, sales in the domestic market increased by 22.1 percent, and exports decreased by 31.7 percent.
If we compare the eight months of 2026 with the same period in 2025, production increased by 8.5 percent to 1.9 million units, domestic sales increased by 18.4 percent to 1.975 million units, and exports decreased by 22.9 percent to 295,700 units.
Anfavea explains the reduction Exports are driven by declining demand from Argentina and competition from Chinese cars in most traditional destinations in Argentina. Latin America.
