ArcelorMittal France has announced the successful production of the first industrial coil from its new electrical steel production line at the Mardyck site in northern France, marking the start of operations and a key milestone in the commissioning phase. The first coil, produced on March 26, 2026, weighs more than 17 metric tons and is nearly four kilometers long.
The commissioning phase supports gradual ramp-up
The initial production run allows the company to optimize industrial processes and equipment across all preparation, annealing-coating and cutting.
This phase is expected to support gradual ramp-up while ensuring consistent product quality.
Electric steels key to the energy transition
Electric steels produced at Mardyck, along with products from ArcelorMittal's Saint-Chély-d'Apcher plant play a critical role in the energy transition.
These materials are essential for electric motors and generators used in the automotive industry, wind turbines and industrial equipment.
Capacity expansion strengthens European position
The new production line represents a strategic investment aimed at expanding ArcelorMittal's presence in the electrical steel segment.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to triple the company's electrical steel production capacity in Europe to approximately 295,000 tonnes per annum. that's all
