Russian steel company Severstal has presented an integrated report for 2025, outlining its financial and operational performance, as well as sustainability initiatives.
Investments in environmental protection and progress in reducing emissions
The company continued its efforts to reduce its environmental impact in 2025, according to Severstal. Total costs for environmental activities reached 9.4 billion rubles.
The company reported that pollutant emissions were reduced by 30 percent compared to 2017 levels thanks to measures implemented as part of the federal Clean Air Project.
Severstal also said that two climate projects at its Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (ChMK) were registered in the Russian Register carbon units. The company noted that it was the first iron and steel manufacturer to successfully test such projects. These initiatives are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4.24 million tons over a 10-year period.
CEO highlights sustainability and ongoing priorities
Commenting on the results, Severstal CEO Alexander Shevelev said: “2025 was a test of strength for Severstal and confirmed our ability to deliver on our commitments. The steel industry is currently going through a difficult period, requiring us to fully focus on internal efficiency. However, environmental and social responsibility remains an absolute priority for us. We continue to take care of residents of the regions where the company operates, implementing projects in the field of integrated urban development, healthcare, culture and sports."
