Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 965,983 metric tons in February this year, up 4.1 percent from January and up 180.9 percent year-on-year, according to preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, revenue from these imports totaled $106.6 million, an increase of 9.1% month-on-month and 223.5% year-on-year.
In January-February this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.9 million tons, an increase of 65.7%, while the value of these imports increased by 59.8% to $204.2 million, same as year-on-year.

During the period, the largest source of iron ore imports to Turkey was Brazil with 1.4 million tons, up 86.0% more than in the previous year. Brazil is followed by Norway with 334,192 tons and Russia with 185,364 tons, up 118.4 percent from last year.
In the first two months of the year, Brazil's exports increased significantly with an 86 percent increase and accounted for the bulk of total imports, indicating that Turkey has returned to its traditional suppliers, while imports from Russia by 118.4 percent indicates the continued presence of alternative sources in the market. Meanwhile, Norway's entry into the list with notable greenfield tonnage signals that the trend towards diversification of supply is intensifying.
