S. Department of Commerce, monthly steel imports to the United States increased by 1.7 percent in February this year compared with January and decreased by 25.0 percent year-on-year, amounting to 1,525,665 tons. In value terms, U.
S. steel imports totaled $1.47 billion in February, compared with $2.3 million in January and $1.09 billion in February 2025.
The largest sources of steel imports to the United States in February include: South Korea with 276,937 tons, Brazil with 223,690 tons, Canada with 204,329 tons and Mexico with 159,191 tons.
By product group, imports of semi-finished products totaled 434,653 tons in February, up from 348,353 tons in January and down from 543,846 tons in February 2025. Imports of flat rolled products in February amounted to 375,780 tons, compared with 454,968 tons in January and 736,460 tons. Imports of rolled products in February amounted to 347,431 tons, compared with 358,457 tons in January and 353,346 tons in February last year. Imports of pipes and tubes totaled 306,550 tons in February, compared with 262,929 tons in January and 317,909 tons in February 2025.
According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, the share of imports in the U.
S. steel market was estimated at 15 percent both in February and in the first two months of this year.
