India's fair trade regulator, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), has found seven regional steel bodies violating antitrust rules as part of a wider probe into price fixing, according to industry sources and media reports on Thursday, April 16.
CCI found that these steel industry associations were acting as conduits for various steel companies to be probed for anti-competitive practices, it said sources.
Jalna Steel Association, Hyderabad Rolling Mills Association, GI Manufacturing Association, Raipur Angle Channel Mill Association, Steel Association, Chhattisgarh, Raipur TMT Association and Steel City Furnace Association, Mandi Gobindgarh, were found to have violated antitrust rules.
The Commission is checking India's largest steelmakers, including Tata Steel, JSW Steel, SAIL and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, for collusion during 2018-2023.
