Australian miner BHP reported stable performance from its iron ore segment for the nine months ended March 31, 2026, with production rising year-on-year and continuing to meet full-year guidance despite weather-related disruptions affecting quarterly deliveries.
Increased iron ore output, maintaining forecast
Iron ore production reached 196.6 million tonnes in the nine months to March 2026, up 2 percent on the previous year, according to BHP's operational review. The company maintained its FY2026 production guidance at 258-269 million tonnes, indicating stable expectations for the remainder of the year. Western Australia's iron ore operation remained the main supplier, with production at 190.7 million tonnes, also up 1 per cent year-on-year.
WAIO achieves record production with strong production
BHP has highlighted record production at WAIO, supported by higher production levels material and improved operational efficiency across all of its Pilbara operations. Increased production at the central hub of the Pilbara, including the Southern Flank and Mining District C, has played a key role, with the Southern Flank exceeding its nameplate capacity.
In addition, increased port productivity following infrastructure upgrades such as the refurbishment of the truck hauler have contributed to improved throughput and logistics efficiency.
