Between February 24 and June 23, 2026, the Brazilian foreign trade agency Siscomex allowed the import of 445,469 metric tons (mt) of finished steel products at regular tax rates.
As of April 22, the average quota utilization rate has already reached 56 percent, compared with 50 percent on April 1, as follows:
· Sheets in rolls: 19 percent from 1,284 tons, unchanged
· HRC: 18 percent from 36,120 tons, against 12 percent previously
· CRC: 44 percent from 84,203 tons, against 19 percent earlier
· Coated Zinc: 72 percent of 144,285 tons, versus 61 percent earlier
· Electroplating: 71 percent of 147,038 tons, versus 57 percent earlier
· Wire rod: 16 percent use 32,534 tons, unchanged
Volumes exceeding quotas during the period will be subject to an import tariff of 25 percent.
The Brazilian steel industry argues that the adoption of quotas is not enough to reduce steel imports under the alleged dumping conditions, although the recent imposition of anti-dumping duties on CRC and coated flat products imported from China has been met with optimism by the industry.
