Ş., one of Turkey's leading stainless steel service centers and exporters, is preparing to increase its production capacity and strengthen its global presence through three major investments totaling over US$150 million.
Three major investments planned
As part of its investment program, Nikel Paslanmaz plans to build Integrated Stainless Steel Plant Steel Bar Plant in Ferizli, Sakarya, with an investment cost of approximately US$100 million, is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2028. The company also plans to launch a 40,000-50,000 tonne stainless steel cold flat rolling mill in Dilovasy by the end of 2027 with an investment of approximately US$50 million.
Overseas, Nikel Paslanmaz will establish a 50,000 tonne capacity stainless steel service center in the Manchester/Burnley region, UK, with an investment of approximately US$4 million. The company, which already has warehouses and sales offices in the UK, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and North Macedonia, also plans to expand its network of service centers in these regions.
Integrated stainless steel production is seen as a strategic necessity
Company board member Kemal Yalgin said that integrated stainless steel production has become a strategic necessity for Turkey, which currently imports about 700,000 tons of stainless steel annually and is part of the number The largest stainless steel consuming countries in the world. He noted that once domestic consumption approaches 1 million tons, setting up an integrated stainless steel plant in Turkey will become more economically viable, although such a project will require extensive cooperation among major industry players.
Commenting on the trade measures, Yalgin said the 12 percent customs duty on stainless steel raw materials already creates a significant cost burden for industrial users, while additional anti-dumping measures further weaken the competitiveness of sectors such as home appliances and industrial kitchen equipment. He added that the elimination of customs duties would be an ideal scenario for Turkish manufacturers.
