According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), in January-April this year, the production and sales of automobile vehicles in China amounted to 9.614 million units and 9.574 million units, decreasing by 5.5 percent and 4.8 percent year on year, respectively.
During this period, automobile exports from China amounted to 3.127 million units, an increase of 61.5 percent year on year. In April alone, China's automobile production and sales totaled 2.575 million units and 2.526 million units, down 11.7 percent and 12.9 percent month-on-month, while down 1.7 percent and 2.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. China's automobile exports totaled 901,000 units in April, up 3.0 percent month-on-month, up 74.4 percent year-on-year.
China's vehicle production and sales fell both month-on-month and year-on-year in April, signaling weaker end-market demand. Meanwhile, the Tomb Sweeping Day and Labor Day holidays weighed on the auto market due to fewer working days in April. At the same time, March saw a period of increasing sales at the end of the quarter, resulting in a relatively high base for month-on-month comparison with April
