Turkey's coking coal imports totaled 427,598 metric tons in March this year, up 102.2 percent year-on-year and 113.5 percent year-on-year, according to preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, revenue from these imports totaled $83.11 million, an increase of 119.2% month-on-month and 109.6% year-on-year.
Between January and March, Turkey's coking coal imports totaled 1.12 million tons, an increase of 22.8 percent, while the value of these imports increased 29.0 percent to $ 221.20 million, both figures year-on-year.

Between January and March 2025, Australia was the largest supplier of coking coal to Turkey, followed by the US and Russia. However, over the same period in 2026, the ranking changed significantly, with imports from the US rising 266.5 percent year-on-year to 551,718 tonnes, putting the country in first place, while imports from Australia fell 20.7 percent to 458,009 tonnes, dropping it to second place. Imports from Russia also fell 40 percent to 110,037 tons. The overall picture shows that while Turkey's total coking coal import tonnage increased by 22.8 percent year-on-year, this growth was mainly driven by purchases from the US, while lower imports from Australia and Russia indicated a clear shift in supply distribution.
