Valid from February 24 to June 23, 2026, the Brazilian foreign trade authority Siscomex (Foreign Trade System) has authorized the import of 445,469 metric tons (mt) of finished steel products at regular tax rates.
Updated May 20, average quota utilization reached 60 percent, up from 56 percent on April 22, as follows as follows:
· Sheets in coils: 19 percent from 1,284 tons, unchanged
· HRC: 18 percent from 36,120 tons, versus 12 percent previously
· CRC: 54 percent from 84,203 tons, versus 44 percent previously
· Coated zinc: 72 percent from 144,285 tons, versus 61 percent previously
· Galvanization: 77 percent of 147,038 tons, up from 71 percent previously
· Wire rod: 16 percent of 32,534 tons used, unchanged
Volumes exceeding quotas during the period will be subject to a 25 percent import tariff.
Brazil's steel industry argues that adopting quotas is not enough to cuts in steel imports under alleged dumping conditions, although the introduction of anti-dumping duties on CRC and coated flat steel imported from China in February was greeted with optimism by the sector.
