The Russian steel company Severstal announced the completion of the capital repair and modernization program for heating furnaces No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 at mill-2000 of the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (CherMK). Reheating furnaces play a critical role in the hot rolling industry, uniformly heating steel slabs before they enter the rolling process.
According to the company, the work was carried out as part of an ongoing maintenance program aimed at ensuring equipment reliability, operational safety and uninterrupted production.
Stan remains a key production asset 2000
Evgeniy Vinogradov, General Director In the Russian Steel and Resource Assets division of Severstal, they stated that the 2000 mill accounts for about 65 percent of CherMK's commercial steel output. He noted that the company currently operates in an intensive production environment with frequent product changes to meet a diverse order book.
Furnace No. 2 modernization is aimed at energy efficiency
The most extensive modernization work was carried out on heating furnace No. 2, where the refractory lining was restored. Severstal expects that the modernization will reduce heat losses, reduce natural gas consumption, improve overall energy efficiency and improve product quality. The company said improved thermal performance will contribute to more efficient heating of steel and stable rolling performance.
Additional furnace maintenance completed
On furnace No. 3, maintenance work included descaling, mechanical component inspection, cooling system diagnostics, and moving beam and integrity assessments connections.
And on furnace No. 1, work was focused on sealing microcracks and eliminating local damage caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The furnace outlet hoses have been replaced with new ones equipped with quick-release couplings designed to simplify future maintenance work. In addition, repair crews updated the collectors and heat exchangers associated with the furnace system.
