Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Liu Jiang, chairman of Chinese steel company HBIS Group in Hebei, in Beijing during his state visit to China, according to a statement released by HBIS.
During the meeting, Vucic said that the Smederevo steel plant, acquired by HBIS in 2016 and known as the HBIS Serbia project, had benefited both steel companies. the mill and the Serbian people over the last decade. Vucic thanked HBIS for its contribution to strengthening friendship between Serbia and China and stated that the Serbian government will continue to support green energy and low-carbon technology projects at the plant.Liu Jian stated that the HBIS Serbia project has maintained steady growth over the ten years of its operation. Liu added that HBIS will continue to implement clean energy projects and modernize technology as the plant develops, while contributing to the Sino-Serbian community with a shared future in the new era.
On the other hand, a joint Chinese-Serbian laboratory operated by HBIS and the University of Belgrade and specializing in the production of environmentally friendly steel has produced the first results, according to a local media report.
The laboratory's key achievements include the production of high-definition test samples of external steel panels, the launch of a pilot production line using hydrogen smelting to extract vanadium and titanium from iron ore, and significant progress in the field of ultra-high-strength steel used in automotive stamping. The researchers also confirmed that a batch of iron ore powder from Serbia can be used as a high-quality raw material for the production of environmentally friendly steel.
