Brazilian pig iron exports reached 280,200 metric tons (mt) in May, up from 267,200 mt in April, according to the SECEX foreign trade secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. The increase mainly reflects the resumption of exports to Europe.
Destinations in May included the United States (161,200 tons at $444 per tonne), Europe (86,400 tons at $438 per tonne), Mexico (27,300 tons at $438 per tonne), Asia (5,000 tons at $531 per tonne) and South America (300 tons at a price of $438 per ton). $523/t), FOB terms.
These prices were likely agreed in March, with the BPI grade price below $475/t and the foundry grade above that level.
Exports were from producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (274 700 t) and from Mato Grosso do Sul. (5500 m), in the central-western region.
