Brazil's wire rod exports reached 15,200 tons in May, up from 24,100 tons in April, according to the SECEX foreign trade secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
The decline was mainly caused by a 79 percent decline in shipments to South America.
Destinations included the United States (11,300 tons at $709/t), South America (3,200 tons at $577/t) and Canada (700 t at $815/t), FOB terms.
Exporters were ArcelorMittal (14,400 t) and Gerdau (800 t).
While Brazil imported 1,000 t of wire rod in May, down from 6,600 t in April, mainly due to a 92% drop in shipments from China.
Sources of imports in April were South Korea (400 tons at a price of 865 US dollars per ton), China (400 tons at a price of 641 US dollars per ton) and Germany (200 tons at a price of 997 US dollars per ton), also on FOB terms.
