Turkey's wire rod exports decreased by 4.9 percent in January-May 2026, despite strong growth to Australia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to preliminary data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May of this year, Turkey's wire rod exports amounted to 92,593 metric tons, which is 43.1 percent more than in April and 18.6 percent more year-on-year. Meanwhile, revenue from these exports totaled 55.43 million US dollars, an increase of 47.5 percent from the previous month and an increase of 24.1 percent year-on-year.

In the first five months of the year, Turkey's wire rod exports totaled 393,995 tons, which is 4.9 percent less, and the value of these exports decreased by 4.2 percent to 230.54 million US dollars, in both cases. on an annual basis.

Between January and May 2025, Romania was Turkey's largest export market for wire rod, and in the same period of 2026, it maintained its leading position despite a 6.4 percent year-on-year decline to 144,664 tons. In contrast, exports to Australia increased by 111.1 percent to 60,063 tons, lifting the country to second place, while shipments to Bosnia and Herzegovina increased by 280 percent to 41,379 tons, putting it in third place. Exports to Bulgaria decreased by 17.6 percent to 25,014 tons, while exports to Italy also decreased by 67 percent. The overall picture shows that although the total tonnage of wire rod exports from Turkey decreased by 4.9 percent year-on-year from January to May, strong growth in markets such as Australia and Bosnia and Herzegovina partially offset losses in traditional European markets.
