Shipments of CR steel strips in Japan increased by 5.2 percent in May 2026 compared to April

In May of this year, shipments of cold-rolled rolled products and strips to Japan increased 5.2 percent from the previous month, but fell 11.3 percent year-on-year to 362,937 tons, according to the Japan Federation of Ferrous Metallurgy (JISF). Of the total shipments, 49.3 percent were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 50.7 percent were sent to export markets.

Meanwhile, Japan's sheet and strip stocks increased 4.4 percent month-on-month and 1.9 percent year-on-year to 669,319 tons. Steel producers held 74.4 percent of stocks, while steel traders accounted for the remaining 25.6 percent.

In May, Japan's sheet and strip production totaled 391,096 tons, up 16.9 percent month-on-month but down 3.5 percent year-on-year.
