In June 2026, export orders for new Japanese vessels more than doubled compared to May

According to data released by the Japan Ship Exporters Association (JSEA), Japanese export orders for new vessels in June this year increased by 113.3 percent in tonnage compared to the previous month, dropping to 15 vessels, including 2 general cargo vessels and 34 bulk carriers, compared with 15 vessels registered in in May, with a total displacement of 1.41 million gross tons.

In the first half of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for 111 ships with a total displacement of 5.01 million gross tons, which is 0.3 percent less than last year.

On the other hand, Japan exported 10 ships with a total displacement of 578,559 gross tons in June, compared with 17 ships with a total displacement of 614,143 gross tons registered in May.

In the period from January to June of this year, Japan exported 104 vessels with a total displacement of 4.72 million gross tons, an increase of 2.3 percent year-on-year.
