Severstal began commissioning a plant for the production of iron ore pellets worth $1.48 billion

Russian steelworks Severstal has begun commissioning the first roasting machine at its new iron ore pellet plant. Hot testing and start of production are scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

The RUB 116 billion ($1.48 billion) project will contribute to Severstal's environmental and operational efficiency goals. Once the plant reaches its design capacity, the company will gradually decommission four sinter machines and two coke oven batteries, creating more than 350 jobs.

Commissioning includes testing of individual devices, comprehensive testing of systems and start-up of auxiliary equipment, including pumping, compressor and ventilation systems. In total, 47 companies from the Vologda region of Russia are participating in the project.
