According to customs statistics released by the Japan Federation of Ferrous Metallurgy (JISF), in June of this year, Japanese exports of pig iron and steel totaled 2.56 million metric tons, an increase of 7.6 percent month-on-month and 1.6 percent year-on-year.
In the first half of this year, Japanese exports of pig iron and steel amounted to 14.21 million tons, which is 6.9% less than in the same period last year.
As for the main export markets of Japan's ferrous metallurgy, in the period from January to June of this year, the country's exports to South Korea increased by 4.5% year-on-year to 2.01 million tons, while exports to Thailand decreased by 0.8% to 2.10 million tons. Meanwhile, Japan's exports to China decreased by 12.9 percent to 1.02 million tons, and its exports to Taiwan decreased by 27.4 percent to 775,477 tons, while exports to the United States declined. The volume of exports increased by 20.6% to 641,130 tons year-on-year.
