Turkish steelmaker Çemtaş posted a net loss of TRY 23.14 million for January–September 2026, compared with a profit of TRY 31.46 million a year earlier. The company also said it would temporarily suspend steelmaking and rolling operations for eight working days, from November 2 to 11, to commission its precision rolling system.
Çemtaş’s nine-month revenue fell 6% year on year to TRY 5.74 billion, while operating profit declined 24.7% to TRY 549.66 million. In the third quarter, however, the company recorded net profit of TRY 159.03 million, up from TRY 10.50 million in the same period last year. Quarterly revenue rose 0.3% to TRY 2.11 billion, and operating profit increased 19% to TRY 332.26 million.
Steel billet production in the first nine months rose 0.4% to 120,359 mt, while rolled steel output increased 0.3% to 109,382 mt. Rolled steel sales grew 2% to 105,588 mt. Domestic sales climbed 5.5% to 69,044 mt, while exports fell 4.1% to 36,544 mt.
Çemtaş attributed generally low steel prices to pressure from Far Eastern markets, weak demand, raw material costs and exchange-rate movements. Higher domestic scrap and natural gas prices have also weighed on Turkey’s steel industry. The company reported some improvement in market sentiment ahead of the final quarter, but said demand, global supply and international developments would continue to influence steel and raw material prices.
Capital expenditure reached TRY 1.38 billion in the first nine months. Alongside the precision rolling system, Çemtaş is continuing work on a solar power plant in Mardin, which is expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company expects its solar plants to cover all of its electricity consumption once the facility is operating. Çemtaş said the planned shutdown would not affect sales, stabilizer bar production or business continuity.
